Egyptian media have confirmed that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump next Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, marking a high-profile Egyptian-American engagement at a critical moment for the region.
According to Egyptian broadcaster Ahmed Moussa, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who is attending the Davos forum, will hold talks with Donald Trump focusing primarily on the situation in Gaza and efforts to secure a ceasefire.
The discussions are also expected to cover a wide range of regional and international issues, including challenges in the Horn of Africa, the Ethiopian dam dispute, global maritime navigation, and the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
The meeting comes amid intensified diplomatic activity by Cairo aimed at de-escalating regional conflicts and reinforcing Egypt’s role as a key mediator in the Middle East and Africa.
Moussa also revealed that Egyptian Minister Hassan Rashad has recently met members of the Palestinian committee tasked with administering Gaza, chaired by Dr Ali Shaath and comprising 11 other members.
The talks focused on advancing a political framework to address the Palestinian issue and assuming administrative responsibilities in the Gaza Strip.
The committee is expected to work on alleviating the humanitarian suffering of Palestinians, taking over governance and operational duties across Gaza, and ensuring the delivery of essential supplies and humanitarian aid. Emphasis has also been placed on the need to open border crossings to facilitate the flow of assistance into the enclave.
The anticipated Sisi–Trump meeting at Davos is being closely watched as a potential catalyst for renewed diplomatic momentum on Gaza and broader regional stability.
