President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received, on Sunday morning, at the Ettahadiya Palace, Deputy Head of the Transitional Military Council of Sudan, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti.
At an invitation from President Sisi, Hemedti arrived in Cairo, late Saturday, on a two-day official visit to Egypt.
During his visit to Cairo, Hemedti will discuss the bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields, as well as issues of common concern.
However, this is his second visit to Cairo; his first visit was in July last year, during which he discussed with Sisi peace arrangements in Sudan through negotiations hosted by South Sudan.
Spokesman of the Sudanese transitional government Faisal Mohamed Saleh announced that the cabinet had taken new security measures and plans to maintain the country’s security and safety.
Faisal revealed that a number of Sudanese citizens and foreigners have been detained over suspicion of involvement in the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdouk.
Saleh said on Wednesday, the American team of experts has arrived in Khartoum and will join the national investigation team to start revealing the circumstances of the assassination attempt.
Hamdouk survived an assassination attempt Monday, at the Al-Waha neighborhood in the Kobar area of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
The incident occurred when the motorcade of Prime Minister Hamdouk was on the way from his residence to his office.
The assassination attempt of the senior Sudanese official is the first of its kind in history of Sudan, in light of the scarcity of information and data regarding the operation.
In another regard, Sudan confirmed its first coronavirus case- a man who died on Thursday had visited the United Arab Emirates in the first week of March.
"The man, in his 50s, died in the Sudanese capital Khartoum," the Health Ministry said in a statement according to Reuters.
