President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed Mideast Peace Plan, proposed by US President Donald Trump, with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, known as Abu Mazen, according to Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
“President Sisi received Saturday Abu Mazen at El-Ettahadiya Presidential Palace, eastern Cairo, in the presence of Head of General Intelligence Services (GIS) Abbas Kamel,” Rady said.
The Spokesman stated that the meeting witnessed discussions on the latest developments in the Palestinian issue in light of the recent developments and the announcement of the US peace plan that included a vision to settle the Palestinian issue and the future solution.
“The president welcomed his brother, President of Palestine Abu Mazen, as a generous guest to Egypt, stressing that Egypt was and still is at the forefront of countries seeking to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East region,” he added.
Rady noted that Egypt adopted peaceful coexistence and renounced violence as a strategic approach to its policy for more than 40 years, adding that “Egypt devoted its efforts to spread that culture in the region as the only way to achieve security, stability, development and prosperity for its people and to change their reality for the better.”
Moreover, Sisi clarified that the Egyptian position towards resolving the Palestinian issue is steadfast through the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on the occupied Palestinian territories in accordance with international legitimacy and its resolutions.
“Hence, Sisi reaffirmed that there is no alternative to direct negotiations between the concerned parties until a settlement can be agreed upon within an inclusive framework that guarantees the sustainability of that settlement and ends the suffering of the people of Palestine by restoring all their legitimate rights and preserving the rights of all parties to life and to live in security, stability and peace,” Rady stated.
On his part, the Abu Mazen expressed his appreciation for Egypt's sincere efforts and endeavors to support the Palestinian cause, praising Egypt's historical, firm and continuing role in this regard.
In a related context, Abu Mazen also praised Egypt's unremitting efforts to push the path of national reconciliation and build bridges of trust between the Palestinian parties to unify ranks at that delicate stage.
He stressed that the Palestinian Authority is determined to move forward to follow steps needed to end the intra-Palestinian pision for the purpose of uniting the people of Palestine.
“The two leaders agreed to continue intensive consultation and coordination regarding various aspects of the Palestinian issue, in a way that contributes to achieving the hopes of the Palestinian people and enabling them to build their independent state and guarantee a better future for next generations,” added the spokesman.
