On the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, both leaders expressed pride in the strong ties between their countries and a shared aspiration to deepen relations in the coming period. Discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation, increasing investments, and activating bilateral dialogue mechanisms across various levels.
The meeting also delved into cultural relations, particularly student exchange programs. President Sisi emphasized the scholarships provided by Al-Azhar for Singaporean students, while Prime Minister Wong highlighted the educational and training opportunities Singapore offers to Egyptian students. The Singaporean Prime Minister praised Al-Azhar’s vital role in promoting moderate Islam and advancing education.
The talks further addressed regional and global issues, with President Sisi sharing Egypt’s perspective on the Middle East's political and economic challenges and strategies for restoring regional stability. Singapore’s Prime Minister commended Egypt's pivotal role in preventing the region from sliding into a full-scale war, which could have severe repercussions on regional and international peace and security.
