Sisi: Religious Identity Shouldn't Determine Egyptians' Rights, Duties

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed on Wednesday that an Egyptian citizen’s rights and duties should never be affected by their religious identity, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

Extending Christmas greetings to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese and all Egyptians earlier today via video conference, Sisi asserted that the Egyptian people’s unity has always been held as sacrosanct throughout the ages.

He warned about attempts by some evil forces to trigger discord among the Egyptian people, noting that many western communities look up to Egypt’s centuries-old history of peaceful coexistence which is based on noble human values.

Sisi also underscored the State’s commitment to promoting ethnic, ideological, and religious persity as essential for development and progress and the pine reality that must be respected.

Meanwhile, the pontiff thanked the president for his kind and patriotic gesture.
