The Belgrade University, one of the most important educational institutions in Serbia, has awarded an honorary doctorate to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.
This came, in recognition of his development efforts inside Egypt, as well as for spreading the thought and culture of peace, cooperation, and construction regionally and internationally.
Rady added that the President of Belgarde university, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, as well as members of the University Council, expressed their pride in President Sisi's visit.
They also stressed that the decision to grant the Egyptian President an honorary doctorate came thanks to his role in leading Egypt during a difficult period of unrest to a new stage of development and construction, with the deep structural reforms launched at the national level in the economic and social fields, in addition to the major national projects that he initiated and built in various sectors of the state and contributed significantly to improving the services provided to Egyptian citizens and redrawing the development map of Egypt.
University officials also praised the president’s efforts to develop Egyptian education, especially by maximizing spending on basic education and raising the level of higher education through a series of fundamental reform projects, including the establishment of a number of technological and technical universities and the development of curricula to keep pace with the latest international standards and match the needs of the labor market.
Moreover, they referred to the influential and tangible role of the president in strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Serbia, especially at the academic and cultural level, which comes as an extension of the historical relations between the two countries within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as focusing on the economic dimension through the encouragement of investments and the inauguration of the Egyptian-Serbian Business Forum and the Egyptian-Serbian Joint Business Council.
The university also appreciated the effective contribution of Sisi to promote peace and cooperation at the regional and international levels, as well as his pioneering efforts towards combating the phenomena of terrorism and illegal immigration, in addition to his tireless efforts in combating climate change, which culminated in Egypt’s hosting of the World Climate Summit next November in Sharm Sheikh.
On his part, Sisi expressed his pride in this tribute, considering it not only for him but for the entire Egyptian people, which is considered a key partner in the recent achievements in Egypt on many levels.
His Excellency delivered a speech on this occasion, which focused on the overall bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and the prospects glorifying it, as well as reviewing the determinants of Egyptian policy towards the most important contemporary regional and international issues.
