Sisi Receives Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit as His Term Nears Completion

​President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Sunday, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Arab Leagur Secretary-General.

​Mohamed El-Shenawy, Official Presidential spokesperson stated that the meeting took place as Ahmed Aboul Gheit’s term as Secretary-General of the League draws to a close. 

During the meeting, Sisi expressed his profound appreciation for the role Aboul Gheit played throughout his tenure, and for his tireless efforts to strengthen the framework of joint Arab action and develop the mechanisms of the General Secretariat. 

He also reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering commitment to supporting the Arab League's role as the primary umbrella for defending Arab interests and fostering cooperation among member states, in order to realize the Arab peoples' aspirations for prosperity and well-being.

For his part, Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed his deep gratitude to President Sisi for his continuous support to the Arab League and his persistent dedication to safeguarding Arab national security and protecting Arab interests. 

Moreover, he highly valued Egypt’s ongoing backing of the League’s role as a pivotal platform for strengthening mutual Arab relations and interests, expressing his pride in working closely with President Sisi and all Arab leaders during his leadership of the General Secretariat, a period that witnessed unprecedented challenges to Arab national security and shared interests.

​The official spokesperson concluded by noting that the meeting addressed several current challenges facing the Arab security framework. These challenges necessitate further cooperation, coordination, and solidarity to build a better future for the peoples of the Arab nation and to navigate the current critical phase.
