President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to international law principles in the Nile file, stressing the need to reject unilateral measures and continue efforts to restore consensus and inclusiveness among Nile Basin countries.
Speaking at a joint press conference with President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sisi praised what he described as the Congolese position based on respect for international law and opposition to unilateral actions among Nile Basin partners.
The Egyptian president said both sides agreed on the importance of good faith, mutual understanding, and continued consultations within the Nile Basin Initiative to achieve shared benefits without harming any party. He stressed that Egypt seeks sustainable management of Nile resources, mutual benefit for all basin countries, and adherence to the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
Sisi also said talks covered cooperation in water resources and irrigation, including joint water projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Egyptian support for dam projects that contribute to development without harming other countries. He added that Egypt will continue providing technical support, expertise, and capacity-building programs.
The discussions also addressed bilateral relations, with the two leaders agreeing to expand trade, investment, and cooperation across various sectors. Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its readiness to provide humanitarian, medical, and food assistance to help address the humanitarian situation in eastern Congo.
