Sisi, Putin Discuss Latest Developments in Libya over Phone

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed on intensifying joint efforts to settle the Libyan crisis and combating armed militias and terror groups as well as putting an end of the illegal foreign interference in the Libyan matter.

Over a phone call on Friday, President Sisi hailed the major development projects implemented in Egypt in cooperation with Russia, like El Dabaa Nuclear Project and the Russian industrial zone at the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

Sisi affirmed that Egypt is looking forward to boosting the ties with Moscow in all fields.

Meanwhile, Putin pointed out that Moscow pays attention to develop relations with Cairo in the coming period in terms of strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders greeted each other on the occasion of the New Year.

Earlier on Thursday, Sisi told US President Donald Trump that Egypt supports activating the will of the Libyan people in achieving security and stability in their country, underlining the importance of the role played by the Libyan National Army in combating terrorism and undermining the activities of the armed groups and militias that have become a rising threat to the whole region.

The two presidents exchanged viewpoints on the latest developments in the region especially the situation in Libya as well as the talks of Ethiopia's Renaissance dam.

"Trump, on his part, renewed his keenness on the success of the dam talks so as to come out with positive and just results that maintain the rights of all parties," said the spokesman.

The talks also covered a number of issues of strategic importance to both countries as the two presidents affirmed their keenness on developing their joint cooperation in all fields, noted the spokesman.
