Sisi Places Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award Under His Patronage

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has agreed to place the Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award 2025 under his gracious patronage, in a move seen as a major boost to the award’s international standing and cultural significance.

Ahmed A. Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, expressed his deep appreciation for the President’s decision, describing it as a generous gesture that reflects strong national support for science, culture, and enlightenment. He extended his sincere thanks to President El-Sisi on his own behalf and on behalf of all Bibliotheca Alexandrina staff.

Zayed said the presidential patronage significantly enhances the award’s prestige at both the local and international levels, emphasizing that it underscores President El-Sisi’s commitment to supporting the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s mission as a global center of knowledge, dialogue, and cultural exchange—serving as Egypt’s window to the world and the world’s window to Egypt.

This marks the first time the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has launched an international, top-level award, in addition to its existing local honors. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Award carries a monetary prize of one million Egyptian pounds, along with a gold medal and an official certificate of excellence.

The award is granted annually to an outstanding individual in the fields of fundamental or applied sciences, or literature, arts, social sciences, and the humanities, in Egypt or internationally, provided the recipient has made a distinguished and impactful contribution. The award may also be presented to an institution that has demonstrated exceptional achievement in the designated field.

Each year, the award is granted in a single field selected by the Award’s Higher Committee and announced in advance. The theme for the 2025 edition is “Green Technology Applications for Achieving Well-Being and Happiness for Humanity.”

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is expected to announce the award results in the near future, amid growing anticipation within academic, scientific, and cultural circles in Egypt and abroad.
