President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed on Sunday government officials to use the latest technological standards in the IT projects to help in doubling the capacity of the country's digital information infrastructure.

"During a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, President Sisi hailed the role played by the IT sector in supporting the digital transformation efforts across Egypt," Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

The meeting tackled the under-construction national projects in the field of communications and information technology.

Sisi was briefed on two initiatives to support digitization in Egypt, as well as efforts made to improve the network infrastructure and upgrade post offices.

Talaat spoke about an artificial intelligence strategy, which is meant to improve government services and hone the digital skills of human cadres in the communications and information technology sector.

The minister announced that the New Administrative Capital (NAC) was chosen by the Council of the Arab Ministers of Communications and Information Technology as the Arab Digital Capital for the year 2021.
