President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.

Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shinawy stated that both leaders praised the growing cooperation between Egypt and Italy, particularly in trade, investment, and energy.

They also stressed the need to enhance collaboration on combating illegal migration. Meloni commended Egypt’s efforts, highlighting that no migrant boats have departed from Egyptian shores since 2016, a move widely recognized by European nations.

The call also covered regional tensions, particularly the situation in Gaza. Meloni expressed keen interest in Egypt’s role in enforcing the ceasefire, facilitating prisoner exchanges, and ensuring sufficient humanitarian aid for civilians.

Both leaders agreed on the urgency of rebuilding Gaza while ensuring Palestinians remain on their land. They called for international responsibility in supporting Palestinian rights and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
