Sisi Directs Officials to Raise Efficiency of Modern Irrigation Systems

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met today with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and Major General Mahmoud Shaarawi, Minister of Local Development to follow-up on irrigation projects at the level of the Republic, especially efforts to clean canals and drains, as well as efforts to raise the efficiency of drinking water stations, treat agricultural drainage and sanitation.

In this regard, the Sisi directed the concerned officials to provide financial resources for the comprehensive development of all water stations of various types of lifting and drainage at the level of the governorates of the Republic and updating their equipment according to the highest technical specifications to complement the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside villages.

Sisi also directed them to the expand the application of modern irrigation systems and the indigenization of technology used in this field in coordination with all concerned national authorities, while educating farmers about their multiple benefits, importance in saving water and increasing agricultural production.

The Spokesman stated that Dr Mohamed Abdel-Ati, Minister of Irrigation, reviewed during the meeting the procedures for cleaning canals and drains nationwide to improve the quality of water and ensure that it reaches all agricultural lands through the network of canals and on time to meet the needs of farmers.

Shaarawi also presented the efforts of the local development sector to raise the efficiency of drinking water stations as well as sanitation stations at the level of several governorates of the Republic, as part of the implementation of the first phase of the national project for the "A Decent Life" initiative to develop 1500 villages in the Egyptian countryside on Republic level.
