Sisi Meets High-Level Officials, Appoints Advisor for Health Affairs

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held today, Saturday, a series of meetings with senior officials of the Republic of Egypt to discuss ways of confronting the novel coronavirus, known widely as COVID-19. 

Sisi was convened with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Dr. Mohamed Moait, Minister of Finance, and Mrs. Nevin Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, in the presence of Major General Mohamed Amin, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Financial Affairs.

The meeting touched on a discussion of the measures taken by the government to manage the current situation in light of the repercussions of the emerging crisis of the coronavirus globally and internally, especially with regard to managing the financial needs of different government agencies to deal with related developments, according to the Egyptian Presidency Bassam Rady.

Rady added that the president directed the government’s efforts in this regard to support the various spectra of the people, in addition to assisting the most needy sects, within the framework of the plans and programs carried out by the state in its management of the coronavirus crisis.

In a related context, President Sisi met also with Mr. Tarek Amer, Governor of the Central Bank.

The Presidency spokesman stated that the meeting dealt with a review of the overall performance of the Egyptian economy and monetary policy of the Central Bank, in light of recent developments at the international level with regard to the outbreak of the new virus.

On his part, the president directed concerned officials to continue taking all necessary measures to maintain economic and monetary stability, and at the same time to provide the resources necessary to support the social protection system, and to take into account the neediest groups and alleviate their burden.

In this regard, the Governor of the Central Bank presented the decisions and initiatives recently taken by the Bank.

In the same framework, Amer also reviewed the most important developments and indicators of the financial position of the Central Bank, in the framework of the bank's efforts to maintain the stability of financial and economic conditions during the coming period.

Moreover, the Egyptian President was convened with Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, after his decision to appoint him as advisor to the President of the Republic for health and prevention affairs.
