Sisi Meets ExxonMobil Vice President to Boost Gas Exploration in the Mediterranean

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with John Ardill, Vice President for Exploration at ExxonMobil Global, in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawy, and Amr Abou Ayta, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil Egypt.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that President El-Sisi hailed ExxonMobil as a strategic partner for Egypt in the energy sector, expressing appreciation for the company’s vital role in supporting Egypt’s oil and gas industry. The President commended the company’s active participation in various government-led energy initiatives, reflecting the depth of the strategic partnership between Egypt and ExxonMobil.

Developments in ExxonMobil’s Mediterranean Operations

The President was briefed on the progress of ExxonMobil’s exploration activities, particularly in its two offshore concession areas in the Mediterranean — “Cairo” and “Masry”.

El-Sisi discussed future cooperation opportunities between Egypt and ExxonMobil, in light of the country’s accelerating transformation in the energy field.

John Ardill presented a detailed overview of the company’s operations in both blocks, noting that the latest drilling and seismic technologies are being utilized to enhance efficiency and accelerate new exploration campaigns following the completion of seismic surveys.

He affirmed ExxonMobil’s commitment to achieving new gas discoveries that reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub.

Energy Partnership and Future Prospects

Minister of Petroleum Eng. Karim Badawy highlighted the investment opportunities available in Egypt’s oil and gas sector, emphasizing that ExxonMobil remains one of Egypt’s key international partners, given its advanced technical expertise and global experience in exploration and production.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s strong commitment to natural gas exploration projects, underlining the government’s readiness to facilitate and streamline procedures to ensure their success.

“Egypt looks forward to ExxonMobil intensifying its exploration and development efforts,” the President said, “while employing the most advanced drilling technologies to increase production and strengthen national energy security.”
