President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Brest, France, and discussed several issues pertinent to the strategic relations between Egypt and France, which have recently witnessed great development, particularly at the economic, trade, military, and security levels.
The two presidents also exchanged views within the framework of intensive consultation between Egypt and France on regional issues of common interest.
On his part, Macron welcomed Sisi’s visit to France, stressing that his country holds in high regard the strong and distinguished relations it shares with Egypt.
Bilateral relations have gained more momentum with the President's multiple visits to France recently.
This contributed to supporting the progress of relations between the two friendly countries in a constructive and positive manner.
He stressed in this context the commitment of the French administration to continue strengthening the frameworks of joint cooperation with Egypt across various fields and to support President Sisi’s diligent efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development and combat both terrorism and extremism in the entire region.
Sisi expressed appreciation for the warm reception, which reflects the strategic nature of the distinguished relations between the two countries and confirmed the special importance that Egypt accords to strengthening cooperation with France in various fields.
This particularly includes the transfer of reputable French expertise and technology to all development fields in Egypt, in addition to maximizing coordination and consultation with the French side in the coming period on various political, security, military, and economic issues of common interest to safeguard security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean basin, and Africa, especially under the current French presidency of the European Union.
The meeting touched on developments related to a number of regional issues of common interest, especially in Libya.
President Macron expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt’s efforts led by Sisi to preserve Libya’s national institutions and to support the path for reaching a political settlement of the crisis; these efforts are appreciated by the entire international community.
There was agreement on concerted joint efforts between the two sides to help the Libyans restore security and stability in the country, especially through the withdrawal of mercenary and foreign forces in all forms from the Libyan territories and the eradication of terrorism.
The two presidents also reviewed means of cooperation and coordination within the framework of Egypt’s hosting of the global climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh in November, especially in light of the two countries’ prominent roles in environmental and climate issues.
The French president expressed his sincere wishes for Egypt's success in hosting this huge international event.
Sisi stated that fulfilling the invitation of the French president to take part in the One Ocean summit reflects Egypt’s keenness to cooperate with France in this field, taking into consideration that Egypt attaches the utmost importance to protecting the marine environment, through various national efforts such as establishing nature reserves, preserving biological persity, and reducing marine pollution.
