Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and the evolving situation in the Middle East, particularly the Gaza conflict.

According to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the two presidents expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Egypt and France. They highlighted the momentum gained from Macron’s historic visit to Cairo in April 2025, during which bilateral relations were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to fully implementing the pillars of this partnership and expanding cooperation across key sectors. Special emphasis was placed on increasing French investments in Egypt and enhancing the involvement of French companies in major economic projects across the country.

The call also focused on regional developments, with the Palestinian issue taking centre stage. President El-Sisi praised France’s consistent support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and briefed his French counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the exchange of hostages and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s backing for the upcoming Peace Settlement Conference scheduled to be held in New York in June 2025. He underscored that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only path to achieving lasting peace in the region.

President Macron, for his part, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability and ending the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He commended Egypt’s official and popular efforts, especially in delivering humanitarian assistance and providing medical care for injured Palestinians.

The two leaders also agreed on the need for continued coordination between Egypt and France on regional issues of mutual concern to foster security and restore stability across the region.
