President Abdel Fattah El Sisi headed a military funeral held for Former Commander of the Air Force General Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Nasr, at the military ceremony area of the Field Marshal Tantawi Mosque, according to Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady on Sunday.

The funeral witnessed participation of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production Lieutenant General Mohamed Zaki, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces General Mohamed Farid and a number of senior commanders and officers of the Armed Forces.

General Nasr had graduated from the Air College in 1956. He held several positions including the commander of an air brigade during the October 1973 war.

General Nasr was appointed commander of the Air Force from 1990 to 1996 and participated in all the wars that Egypt has fought since 1956 War until victory of October War in 1973.

He received many military decorations and medals thanks to his immortal heroic role and work.

"On his part, President Sisi offered condolences to the deceased's family, describing him as one of the bright examples in serving his homeland and the Armed Forces throughout the history of the Egyptian army," Rady added.

Sisi Leads a Military Funeral- Press PhotoThe incumbent Commander of the Air Force is Lieutenant General Mohammed Abbas Helmy Hashem. He has been taking up office since July 22, 2018.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1961 and graduated from the College Air Force Academy in April, 1982.

He received a B.Sc. in Aviation and Military Sciences, M.A. in Military Sciences, Command and Staff College, Higher War College Fellowship, Nasser Higher Military Academy and Senior Leaders' Higher Course at Nasser Higher Military Academy.

He assumed command posts reaching the post of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force

Regarding medals and decorations, he was awarded the Excellent Service Decoration, Military Duty Decoration, First Class, 25 April 1982 Decoration, July 1952 Revolution's Golden Jubilee Medal, Silver Jubilee of October 1973 Victory, Air Force Fiftieth Anniversary Medal, Long Service and Good Exemplary Medal, 25th January 2011 Revolution Medal, 30th June 2013 Revolution Medal, Air Force Diamond Jubilee Medal and Sinai Liberation's silver Jubilee Medal.
