President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed with French Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly, in Paris, the development of military cooperation between Egypt and France and exchanged views on a number of regional issues.

"The President expressed appreciation for and confidence in the strategic relations with France across various fields, especially security and military," said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

During the meeting, Sisi looked forward to developing bilateral cooperation in a way that contributes to countering current challenges and achieving development and prosperity for the peoples of the two countries.

On her part, the French Minister of the Armed Forces stressed the importance that her country attaches to strengthening coordination and solidifying the existing partnership between Egypt and France, especially military cooperation between the two countries. This also includes joint efforts to combat terrorism, given that Egypt is the cornerstone for security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.

"The meeting touched on the development of military cooperation between the two countries," Rady added.

Sisi affirmed that facing challenges in the region and combating terrorism require unified efforts and collective coordination to ensure the strength and effectiveness of the confrontation.

Sisi and Parly agreed to intensify consultation and coordination in the coming period between the two sides so as to confront terrorism and undermine the danger of terrorists moving from hotbeds of tension to other regions, which threatens regional security as a whole, especially in North Africa and the African coast.

The latest developments pertinent to the Libyan crisis were also discussed. Views were aligned on the importance of supporting the political track in Libya and adhering to holding the upcoming elections on December 24.

Thus, a legitimate authority elected by the free will of the Libyan people will assume power. This shall mark the beginning of a new page for the Libyan state as well as reinstate state institutions, restore security and stability, the exit of foreign forces, and the fulfillment of the aspirations of its people.

Sisi arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport in the French capital, Paris, on Thursday to take part in the International Conference on Libya.

“The President's participation in this important conference comes in response to the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, and in light of the close relations between Egypt and France, as well as Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting the political track in Libya at the bilateral, regional and international levels,” noted Rady.
