Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Monday held a summit with Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the presidential palace of Ittihadyia, Presidency spokesman said in a statement.
At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi welcomed Jordanian king in his second homeland Egypt, praising the deeply rooted and historical ties between the two Arab countries.
Regarding the situation in Syria, El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s rejection to the Turkish offensive against the sovereignty of Syria, as this contravenes the rules of international law and international legitimacy governing relations among countries.
On his part, King Abdullah affirmed his country's pride in the historical and brotherly relations between the two countries and peoples, praising the distinguished level of relations between Egypt and Jordan.
He also expressed his keenness to continue expanding cooperation in various fields, especially economic, trade and investment, as well as continuing coordination and consultation on various issues.
The Presidential spokesman added that the meeting dealt with means of boosting bilateral relations in a number of areas, within the framework of the distinguished success of the latest Joint Higher Committee meeting held in Cairo, where the two leaders praised the continuous work to strengthen economic relations and increase trade exchange to live up to political relations and historical ties that bring the two peoples together.
They also talked about latest developments in the region, particularly the Palestinian issue, expressing their support to the Palestinians to achieve their legitimate rights and resume negotiations in accordance with international laws and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They also agreed on the need to reach a comprehensive political settlement to end the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people and preserve the unity and cohesion of Syria.
It is noteworthy that El-Sisi received today King Abdullah II and his wife Queen Rania Al Abdullah at Cairo International Airport.
King Abdullah and his spouse were officially received upon their arrival, as the national anthems of the two countries were also played.
