On Sunday, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said that the completion of the Zohr gas field cost him and the government 25,000 non-stop man-hours.

During Egypt Economic Conference 2022, Sisi added: "Demarcation of the borders in the Mediterranean Sea with Cyprus and Greece and in the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia played a major role in the field's work... Had it not been for the demarcation of the borders, I would not have had companies engaged in exploration... Demarcation of the border is the first thing."

"Were it not for the Zohr field, the time of Egypt would have been extinguished... We don't have money to pay every year $2 billion a month in order to run electricity stations, and this is at the old price."

The president explained that "the Italian multinational energy company Eni said that the Zohr field's finishing would take 5 years. I said, No, only 18 months, not 5 years. I am there every day. Any problem I will solve. A refinery needs one and three years to allocate the lands.. It was allocated in two hours by phone.

The conference is organized by the Egyptian government during the period from 23 to 25 October, commissioned by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the new administrative capital.

The conference discusses the conditions and future of the Egyptian economy, with the wide participation of a group of senior economists, thinkers, and specialized experts.

The conference agenda is packed with many sessions and events over its three days, according to three main tracks.

The first track includes macroeconomic policies, while the second track focuses on empowering the private sector and creating a business environment.

The third is devoted to formulating a future roadmap for priority sectors in the government's work program for the coming period.

This track witnesses the holding of a number of interactive time sessions that discuss the insights and ideas of experts on what policies are required.

The conference also discusses achieving national goals in a number of priority sectors for the Egyptian economy and the nature of the procedures required to overcome the existing challenges facing these sectors.
