President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Iraqi Prime Minister (PM) Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani on the sidelines of the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that President El-Sisi expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi Prime Minister for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, praising Iraq’s efforts in hosting the summit.

He also reaffirmed Egypt’s confidence in Iraq’s leadership of joint Arab action in the coming year under its chairmanship of the Arab League.

Iraqi PM, in turn, praised Egypt’s pivotal role in the Arab region and its stance on regional developments.

The meeting witnessed the Egyptian President’s appreciation for the progress Iraq has made across various sectors.

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and commercial fields.

Special focus was placed on infrastructure and energy, with discussions on the potential role of Egyptian companies in supporting Iraq’s development programs.

Both sides expressed a strong desire to explore broader prospects for cooperation that serve the mutual interests of their peoples.

Moreover, the meeting addressed the latest regional developments and efforts to restore regional stability.

Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the facilitation of humanitarian aid, considering this the only path toward restoring regional security.

They also reiterated their firm rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or displace Palestinians, affirming their commitment to the Arab-Islamic plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Both parties stressed the necessity of preventing the escalation of regional conflict, underlining the importance of restoring stability in Arab countries, respecting their sovereignty, protecting their borders, and preserving their territorial integrity.
