President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks with Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani on Sunday. They discussed ways to improve bilateral ties and fortify a regional alliance with Jordan.

As Al Sudani arrived in Cairo, his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouly met him at the airport. Bands played the two nations' anthems while Al-Sudani and Madbouly reviewed an honour guard.

Egyptian Presidency Spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy said that the Iraqi prime minister and El-Sisi later met in his presidential residence in Cairo to discuss economic cooperation and security between the two nations.

The two presidents also talked about their collaboration with Jordan and other regional challenges, according to a statement from Fahmi.

Foreign and trade ministries from both countries participated in the discussions, according to Fahmi.

Al-trip Sudani's was his first to Cairo following the Iraqi parliament's approval of his Cabinet in October, which broke a year-long political impasse. Former Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, who succeeded al-Sudani, had developed a close bond with both King Abdullah II of Jordan and el-Sisi.

Sisi visited Baghdad in June 2021, making history as the first Egyptian head of state to do so since relations between the two nations were cut following Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait in the 1990s.

In order to discuss implementing tripartite strategic projects, Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan's leaders have attended five summits since 2019, the most recent of which took place in December at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

According to the state-run Al-Ahram daily in Egypt, these include connecting the gas transmission networks between Egypt and Iraq through Jordan and a commercial hub near the Jordanian border with Iraq.

Al-Kadhimi has worked to improve his nation's reputation in the Middle East as a good negotiator who can persuade even the most adamant adversaries to sit down and talk. Iran and Saudi Arabia recently had discussions in Baghdad that were centred on repairing relations between the two regional rivals as well as the conflict in Yemen.
