Sisi Inaugurates COP-27 Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi will inaugurate the activities of the 27th session of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the participation and attendance of 120 world leaders, heads of government, and a group of international figures and experts.

The opening session of the summit will witness a welcoming message from Egypt, and a short film on climate change. 

Moreover, President Sisi will give a speech, outlining the features of the roadmap towards a better future for the peoples of the world and for all humanity, especially with regard to ways and mechanisms for implementing previous slogans and pledges into realistic and tangible solutions and commitments to reduce the rate of thermal emissions and to ensure a natural, environmentally safe and healthy life on the planet. 

In addition, the inaugural session will also witness speeches by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, UAE President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which will host the next Climate Summit (COP-28), Senegal President, in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union (AU), a Ugandan climate activist and an inspiring US official in the field of climate and weather changes.

The summit’s plenary session will extend over the course of two days from November 7 to 8, as it will witness statements by a number of leaders participating in the meetings, as well as six round tables, which President Sisi is set to participate in a number of them. 

President Sisi will participate in 4 major international events during the Climate Summit, the first one with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to launch the 2nd edition of the "Green Middle East Initiative" summit, and the second event with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, where the Cyprus Initiative will be launched to address the effects of climate change. 

The initiative aims to strengthen regional coordination and cooperation among the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, by taking advantage of the “excellent relations that Cyprus maintains with neighboring countries” and to develop a regional action plan with the contribution of distinguished scholars. 

Furthermore, Sisi and Senegal President Macky Sall (chairman of the African Union) will chair a session on green hydrogen, in light of the growing global interest in green hydrogen projects as a promising source of energy in the future.

Moreover, Egypt's President and the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre will take part in a session dedicated to the launch of the “green shipping” challenge, which aims to encourage countries and industries to adopt the technology of building ships that operate on clean energy.

It is also scheduled that President Sisi will witness a large number of bilateral meetings with leaders of participating countries during the conference period, to discuss ways to strengthen relations between Egypt and the countries of the world, as well as to discuss international and regional issues, especially the climate change.
