Sisi, ICAO Secretary-General Discuss Civil Aviation Co-op

​President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation, and Mohamed Rahma, the ICAO Regional Director for the Middle East.

Mohamed El-Shennawy, Official Presidential spokesperson stated that President Sisi welcomed the Secretary-General and expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the vital role ICAO plays as the international authority responsible for regulating the global civil aviation sector and ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.

Sisi also praised the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the organization on both bilateral and regional levels, particularly given that Cairo hosts the ICAO Middle East Regional Office.

​The spokesperson added that the President emphasized Egypt’s commitment to developing its civil aviation sector, viewing it as a strategic pillar directly linked to comprehensive economic development.

He also highlighted its pivotal role in supporting trade, tourism, and investment, as well as enhancing connectivity between global markets and nations.

In this context, Sisi noted that Egypt is implementing an integrated plan to modernize its civil aviation system, which includes infrastructure development, improving service quality, enhancing operational efficiency, and boosting technical and human capabilities, alongside increasing the capacity of Egyptian airports.

​For his part, Salazar expressed his pleasure at meeting the President and commended Egypt’s central role in supporting and developing the civil aviation sector internationally and regionally.

Moreover, he specifically praised the significant efforts made by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Egyptian airports recently to accommodate a large number of emergency and rescheduled flights resulting from the closure of various airspaces due to the war in the region.

Salazar also affirmed that Egypt successfully managed these challenges with efficiency and responsibility, ensuring that air traffic continued in a safe and organized manner.
