Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced that the long-awaited national dream of establishing a nuclear power program has finally become a reality, thanks to the sustained efforts of the Egyptian state and its strategic partnership with Russia.
Speaking during the celebration marking a major milestone in the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, El-Sisi said the project represents the first chapter in Egypt’s modern nuclear history, describing it as a transformative step in the country’s energy future.
He noted that the dream of building a nuclear plant in El-Dabaa dates back to the 1960s but was repeatedly derailed due to economic and political challenges. El-Sisi stressed that with Russian support, Egypt succeeded in overcoming all obstacles, allowing the long-delayed project to finally move forward for the benefit of both nations.
The president highlighted Egypt’s growing role in the global energy sector, saying that acquiring a peaceful nuclear reactor for electricity generation will help reduce the cost of power production and ease financial burdens on citizens and investors. He added that nuclear energy will strengthen Egypt’s energy security and increase its competitiveness in regional and international markets.
El-Sisi expressed deep gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as all Egyptian and Russian experts working on the El-Dabaa project. He thanked everyone who contributed to turning the vision into a landmark achievement for the country.
He also emphasized that the nuclear plant will create thousands of job opportunities for young Egyptians, in addition to generating broad returns across the energy, industrial and investment sectors.
With the El-Dabaa project advancing, Egypt positions itself among the countries operating peaceful nuclear power, marking a historic breakthrough in the nation’s long-standing ambitions to diversify its energy mix.
