Sisi, Greek Counterpart Hold Talks in Athens

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks on Tuesday with Greek Prime Minister (PM) Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the tripartite summit between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus in Athens.

At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi thanked the Greek PM for the warm reception and hospitality, praising the strong and deep ties between the two countries, as well as the continuous coordination on positions related to regional issues in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Moreover, Sisi affirmed Egypt's keenness to support and deepen the distinguished relations between Cairo and Athens, whether at the bilateral level or within the framework of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus.

On his part, Mitsotakis expressed his pride in Sisi's visit to Athens, which comes within the framework of historic ties between both countries.

In addition, he stressed Greece's aspiration to enhance bilateral cooperation and friendship between Cairo and Athens, especially in light of Egypt's pivotal role as a pillar of stability in the Middle East, as well as its efforts in the fight against terrorism. and illegal immigration.

The meeting touched on ways to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries at all levels, especially mutual support within various regional and international organizations in a manner that reflects the strength of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries.

They also discussed cooperation to overcome the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as strengthening economic ties and coordination in the field of energy and natural gas, especially with regard to the East Mediterranean Gas Forum.

Moreover, Sisi and Mitsotakis discussed a number of regional and international files of common concern, foremost of which, counter-terrorism and illegal immigration, as well as Libyan crisis, and efforts to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli parties, in addition to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue, in light of the presidential statement issued by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
