The Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi received a telephone call from his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman, according to the presidency's spokesman Bassam Rady.
During the talks, the Czech president praised the historical and close relations between the two countries and the two friendly peoples, especially at the security, economic and cultural levels, stressing the keenness of his country and the 'Visegrád Battlegroup', an EU Battlegroup including Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, to continue to work on developing their relations with Egypt and pushing it to broader horizons.
He also extended his invitation to President Sisi to visit the Czech Republic as soon as the coronavirus pandemic recedes.
On his part, El-Sisi expressed Egypt's pride in its distinguished relations with the Czech Republic, and the positive developments it has witnessed in recent years, stressing his aspiration for continued coordination with the Czech President to advance joint cooperation between the two countries and consultation on various issues of common concern.
He also pointed out to the importance of developing friendship and cooperation relations between Egypt and 'Visegrád Battlegroup' countries.
The talks also touched all possible ways to coordinate joint efforts and exchange views on combating the spread of the novel coronavirus, as well as containing its economic and social repercussions.
Egypt and Coronavirus
It is noteworthy that Egypt registered on Tuesday 1,152 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total cases to 27,536.
“Forty-seven more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 1,052,” Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.
“Up to 6,827 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.
“As many as 380 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.
Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 7,642 after getting proper treatment in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Earlier, Dr. John Jabbour, the WHO representative, noted that in Egypt, 85% of the positive cases had recovered without treatment because their symptoms were simple, he said.
According to him, Egypt faces many challenges, topped by coordinating among all the health-related sectors and making the best use of the state’s revenues in the fight against the pandemic, in addition to addressing the social stigma associated with the disease and supporting the medical staff who are standing on the frontlines and risking their own lives to treat infected patients.
The WHO official urged all the people to follow protective measures and stay at home to protect themselves and their loved ones against the disease.
Sisi and coronavirus
President Sisi wrote on his Twitter and Facebook accounts on Thursday asking the Egyptian people to maintain their solidarity and to stand together at this “important moment” to face the coronavirus pandemic.
“As the efforts of the Egyptian state, the government and the people continue to face this pandemic, implement the development plans, and preserve the economic stability during the hardest circumstances, the enemies of the nation try to question the state’s achievements and efforts.
“I reassert my confidence in the Egyptian people who always demonstrate their strength in facing those campaigns; God bless Egypt and Egyptians,” El-Sisi wrote.
