President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call, on Saturday, from his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, official Presidential Spokesperson, stated that the call addressed the latest developments in the Middle East region, foremost among which was the agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding the cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

In this regard, Cypriot President expressed his country's full welcome of this agreement, confirming Cyprus's support for its implementation and commending the vital role played by Egypt, along with President Sisi’s personal efforts, in facilitating the achievement of the deal.

For his part, President Sisi reviewed with the Cypriot President the main aspects and details of the agreement, stressing its importance in halting the war, releasing hostages and detainees, securing the entry of humanitarian aid, and commencing the reconstruction process in the Strip.

He also affirmed the necessity of the full implementation of the agreement’s provisions, noting that Egypt has exerted continuous efforts over the past two years, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

In this context, Sisi extended an invitation to the Cypriot President to participate in the ceremony that will be held in Egypt to mark the conclusion of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Furtgermore, Sisi emphasized the necessity of deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip and the importance of granting international legitimacy to the reached agreement through the UN Security Council.

Both Presidents also stressed the immediate need to begin the reconstruction process of the Strip, where President Sisi mentioned Egypt’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, a move welcomed by the Cypriot President.

The call also addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus.

The two Presidents discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two friendly countries in the political, commercial, and investment fields.

They also agreed to build upon the outcomes of the summit held between them in January 2025, contributing to expanding cooperation horizons in the sectors of tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest.

In this regard, Cypriot President affirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s positions within the European Union (EU).
