Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has sent on Sunday a congratulatory message to Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said on the assumption of office in the Sultanate of Oman.
The president extended warmest congratulations, wishing further progress and prosperity of Omani people under the Sultan's wise leadership, according to presidency official spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi.
Sisi referred to the longstanding history of cooperation between both countries, stressing Egypt’s keenness to reinforce the bilateral ties for the benefits of the two brotherly peoples.
It is worth mentioning that, Oman has named, on Saturday, al-Said, 65 years old, as the country’s new ruler to succeed his cousin Sultan Qaboos bin Said who died on Friday.
He has held several positions in the Sultan; he is one of Sultan Qaboos’s close associates and envoy; he was appointed as the Chairman of the Main Committee for the Future Vision “Oman 2040. He also served as the secretary-general for the ministry of foreign affairs, and undersecretary of the ministry of foreign affairs.
He also served as the head of the Omani Football Association from 1983 till 1986 and chaired the organizing committee of the 2nd Asian Beach Games in Muscat in 2010.
He assumed the position of Minister of Heritage and Culture from February 2002 until January 11, 2020.
