President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called Friday evening Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to congratulate him on the historic peace step taken by sisterly Bahrain, according to Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.
Sisi said the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bahrain and Israel will open prospects for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East region, as well as a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue.
On his part, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude for this gesture from the Egyptian president and his efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.
He added that Sisi's call is an extension of the pioneering historical Egyptian role in spreading peace in the Middle East region.
“I followed up with great interest on the tripartite statement issued by the United States of America, Bahrain and Israel regarding the consensus on establishing diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Israel,” Sisi posted on his official Facebook and Twitter accounts on Friday.
Israel and Bahrain have reached a deal to fully normalize their relations, US President Donald Trump has announced.
Last month, the United Arab Emirates last month agreed to normalize ties with Israel under a U.S.-brokered agreement. The UAE-Israel agreement is scheduled to be signed on Sept. 15 in Washington.
