President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Wednesday, Félix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the Official Spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the official reception ceremony included a guard of honor saluting the guest President, the playing of both national anthems, and a commemorative photo session.
This was followed by a bilateral meeting between the two leaders, and then an expanded session of talks in the presence of both countries' delegations. Afterward, President Sisi hosted a luncheon in honor of President Tshisekedi and his accompanying delegation.
The Official Spokesperson noted that Sisi welcomed Tshisekedi on his fourth visit to Egypt in recent years, reflecting the depth and distinction of Egyptian-Congolese relations, and praising the momentum witnessed in bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Sisi also congratulated President Tshisekedi on the 66th anniversary of the DRC's independence, which falls at the end of this June.
For his part, the Congolese President expressed his appreciation for the warm hospitality he always receives during his visits to Egypt, emphasizing his country's gratitude for the support Egypt provides across various fields.
He also commended President Sisi's commitment to developing relations with the DRC, as well as Egypt's efforts to establish peace in the African continent in general, and in the DRC in particular.
The Spokesperson explained that the two Presidents discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and the DRC.
In this regard, Sisi stressed the need to continue working to boost trade exchange and investments between the two nations, highlighting the importance of convening the joint committee and establishing executive programs and mechanisms to monitor the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across various fields of mutual interest.
The President also pointed out the extensive expertise enjoyed by Egyptian companies, particularly in the fields of energy and infrastructure, expressing Egypt's readiness to support the DRC in all sectors.
The Official Spokesperson mentioned that Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's full support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Moreover, he noted Egypt's positive engagement in supporting international and regional efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in eastern Congo, including through the full implementation of the Washington and Doha agreements.
In this context, the Congolese President expressed his appreciation for Egypt's constructive role, while President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt's constant readiness to exert all necessary endeavors and efforts to bridge positions, end the ongoing conflict, and mitigate its humanitarian consequences.
The Spokesperson added that the two Presidents also discussed developments regarding cooperation among the Nile Basin countries, where they emphasized the necessity of respecting international law governing transboundary international rivers.
In this framework, President Tshisekedi praised Egypt's stance, which is keen on consensus and supportive of the developmental aspirations of the Nile Basin nations, underscoring his country's commitment to continuing and strengthening coordination with Egypt in this regard.
