President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a phone call today with Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi.
The call reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical relations between Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Both leaders expressed their keenness to strengthen these ties by exploring broader horizons for cooperation, particularly in the economic and developmental sectors.
Sisi also extended his sincere condolences to President Tshisekedi and the people of the DRC over the recent tragic boat accident on the Congo River.
The phone talks also addressed regional developments, with a focus on enhancing cooperation among Nile Basin countries to serve their shared interests.
Both presidents emphasized the importance of consensus among the basin states to reinforce collaborative frameworks and capitalize on available opportunities for joint development.
The discussion further included an exchange of views on the situation in eastern DRC. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for all regional and international initiatives aimed at reaching a political settlement to the crisis, in a manner that would restore stability to the region.
