President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received a phone call today from Gustavo Petro, during which both leaders reviewed the current state of relations between Egypt and Colombia.

According to presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi expressed appreciation for the steady development of bilateral ties, particularly following Petro’s visit to Egypt in October 2025. He stressed the importance of maintaining momentum and expanding cooperation across various sectors in the coming period.

On his part,  Petro praised the strength of relations with Egypt and reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to advancing them further. Both sides explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in cultural and educational exchange, tourism and civil aviation, as well as energy, trade, and investment.

The call also addressed regional developments, with President Petro listening to El-Sisi’s assessment of ongoing tensions in the Middle East. El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent the region from sliding into broader instability, warning of the serious consequences of escalating conflict.

He reiterated Egypt’s firm support for the security and stability of Arab states, rejecting any violations of their sovereignty or threats to their national security and resources. President Petro commended Egypt’s role in de-escalation efforts and expressed hope for a swift restoration of regional stability.

Discussions also covered the situation in Gaza Strip, where El-Sisi expressed appreciation for Colombia’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause. He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to sustain the ceasefire agreement, facilitate the uninterrupted entry of humanitarian aid, and push forward early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The two leaders also reviewed developments in the West Bank. El-Sisi stressed the need to create conditions for the resumption of negotiations aimed at achieving a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian Cause, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, described as the only path toward lasting peace in the Middle East.
