Canadian Prime Minister (PM) Justin Trudeau said on Monday that he had a phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which the two sides discussed the latest developments in the conflict in Gaza.

During the phone call, Trudeau reiterated his condemnation of Hamas’ brutal terrorist attacks against Israel and underscored Canada’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law.

He emphasized that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people nor their legitimate aspirations.

The leaders exchanged views on the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. They agreed that much more needs to be done to ensure the safe and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza.

Moreover, Canadian PM expressed his appreciation for President el-Sisi’s leadership in ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and underscored the $60 million in humanitarian support that Canada has pledged in life-saving aid to civilians.

He also emphasized that the price of justice cannot be the continued suffering of Palestinian civilians, particularly when it comes to innocent women and children.

Furthermore, Trudeau thanked the President for his support in securing the departure of foreign nationals from Gaza, including Canadians and their families in the coming days.

They also agreed on the importance of avoiding escalation of this conflict in the region. The leaders reiterated the need for a renewed path to ensure a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace, security, and dignity, without fear.
