Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took part on Tuesday in a session titled “Ensuring the Safe, Rapid and Effective Deployment of Artificial Intelligence”, held as part of the G7 Summit in the French city of Évian.
Presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy said participating leaders and heads of major companies discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence in different areas of life, as well as the opportunities and risks linked to its rapid development.
The participants said the growing use of AI requires every country to develop a clear roadmap, along with legal and legislative frameworks for digital transformation and artificial intelligence. They also called for stronger international coordination in this field.
The session also addressed the need to take further steps on AI governance and capacity-building, in order to keep pace with the fast development of these technologies.
Participants warned that the risks of artificial intelligence should not be overlooked, particularly in relation to security, society, ethics and information integrity. They said the absence of effective international governance could limit state sovereignty, reduce the benefits of the digital revolution, and widen existing gaps between social groups and between developed and developing countries.
The discussion also stressed the importance of international cooperation, including partnerships between the public and private sectors, to address the risks associated with AI and maximise the benefits offered by the technology.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of strengthening AI governance, saying the development of artificial intelligence is a natural and continuous process. He added that humanity is still at an early stage in this field.
The Egyptian president said the world must deal seriously with the risks of artificial intelligence and work to prevent them, while making use of the opportunities it provides for development, innovation and progress.
