Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed the importance of continuing efforts to develop the country’s higher education and scientific research system, describing it as a cornerstone of human development and sustainable growth.
The remarks came during a meeting attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdel Aziz Konsowa.
According to presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi reviewed the ministry’s vision and strategic plan for the coming period, which aims to position Egypt as a regional and international hub for higher education, scientific research and innovation.
The strategy seeks to support the transition toward a knowledge-based economy while attracting students, researchers and academic institutions from around the world.
During the meeting, the president highlighted the need to continue modernising universities and strengthening their role in skills development and professional training programmes that align with the evolving demands of local, regional and international labour markets.
The discussion also focused on expanding the quality and competitiveness of Egypt’s higher education sector, enhancing research capabilities and encouraging innovation to support economic development.
Minister Konsowa noted that Egypt currently has 129 universities, including public, private, national and technological institutions, as well as universities with special status and branches of foreign universities operating across the country.
