Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from U.S. President Joe Biden, during which they discussed ongoing mediation efforts by Egypt, the United States, and Qatar to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees. The two leaders reviewed the latest developments in the negotiations and stressed the need for all parties to show flexibility and overcome obstacles to reach an agreement.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that President El-Sisi emphasized the urgency of an immediate ceasefire to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid, and prevent the escalation of violence, which could lead to catastrophic consequences for the region.
The two presidents also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Egypt-U.S. relations across all sectors, underscoring the strategic partnership between the two nations. President El-Sisi extended his best wishes to President Biden as he approaches the end of his term in January 2025.
