Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with Kenyan President William Ruto on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Africa–France Summit taking place in Nairobi.

According to the Egyptian presidency, President Sisi expressed appreciation for the warm reception and hospitality extended by Kenya and its people, reaffirming Egypt’s pride in its longstanding historical ties with Kenya at both the official and popular levels.

The Egyptian president also stressed the importance of activating the joint presidential declaration signed in January 2025 to elevate relations between the two countries to the level of a “comprehensive strategic partnership.”

Sisi said stronger cooperation between Cairo and Nairobi would support economic integration and allow both countries to benefit from their strategic geographic locations, growing economies, and young populations.

For his part, President Ruto praised Sisi’s active participation in the summit and commended Egypt’s support for development efforts in Kenya and Nile Basin countries.

The talks also focused on cooperation in water resources management, with President Sisi reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Kenya and other Nile Basin states in ways that achieve mutual benefit while protecting water security and national interests.

In this context, Sisi praised the strong coordination and consultation between Egypt and Kenya aimed at promoting cooperation and avoiding division among Nile Basin countries.

President Ruto reiterated Kenya’s support for continued dialogue and coordination among Nile Basin states in order to strengthen economic ties and serve the interests of regional populations.

The meeting additionally addressed several regional issues of common concern, particularly the situation in Sudan.

President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s consistent support for Sudan’s stability, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to help restore stability and prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation.

The Egyptian president also reviewed Cairo’s broader efforts aimed at restoring regional stability and promoting a vision focused on development, economic growth, and improving living conditions rather than exhausting state resources through armed conflicts.

President Ruto welcomed Egypt’s approach and confirmed Kenya’s commitment to maintaining coordination with Egypt in support of peace and stability across Africa and the Middle East.

The two leaders agreed to continue strengthening consultation and bilateral coordination during the coming period.
