Sisi Affirms Egypt's Support for Mozambique

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has arrived in Maputo, Mozambique's capital, marking the start of his inaugural visit to the country. He held high-level discussions with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi at the presidential palace in Maputo.

Ahmed Fahmi, the official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that President Nyusi welcomed President Sisi's historic visit. Nyusi expressed his nation's deep appreciation for this first-ever visit by an Egyptian president to Maputo. He lauded Sisi's current tour of several African nations, reflecting Egypt's intense focus on Africa and its dedication to supporting its brothers on the continent.

President Nyusi emphasized the strength of the bilateral relations and the long-standing ties between Egypt and Mozambique. He expressed his country's aspiration to reinforce these relations, particularly economically, considering Mozambique's eagerness to encourage Egyptian investments. He assured his commitment to provide all necessary facilitations for Egyptian companies and to overcome any obstacles they may face in their operations in Mozambique.

The spokesperson added that President Sisi expressed his pride in being the first Egyptian president to visit Maputo. Consequently, Egypt anticipates this visit will open new horizons for cooperation between the two nations, triggering a qualitative leap in bilateral relations. Sisi confirmed his commitment to visiting Mozambique on this African tour, springing from an appreciation for the historical fraternal relations linking it with Egypt and its crucial role in Southern Africa.

Furthermore, President Sisi stated that there are vast prospects for developing the economic cooperation level between Egypt and Mozambique. He noted the importance of working on improving trade exchange rates between the two countries to match the level of their distinguished bilateral relations. This includes a mutual focus on strengthening the presence of active Egyptian companies in Mozambique and encouraging new companies to invest there, particularly in developing infrastructure, agriculture, aquaculture, and healthcare. He also pledged to continue providing various forms of support and capacity building for Mozambican counterparts in various civil and military fields.
