Sisi, Pompeo Discuss Latest Developments in Libya

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received the United States (US) Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at his residence in Berlin, according to Presidency spokesman Ambassador Bassam Rady.

This meeting came on the sidelines of the international conference on Libya  held in Berlin, with the attendance of a galaxy of world leaders.

At the outset of the meeting, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to deepen the strategic partnership with the US to achieve security and stability in the Middle East region.

Regarding the Libyan issue, Sisi affirmed that there is no way out of this crisis except through "a comprehensive solution" that addresses all dimensions through clear and specific political, security, and economic paths.

Concerning Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Sisi expressed appreciations for the US's efforts in sponsoring the tripartite negotiations on GERD.

Moreover, the Egyptian president asked Pompeo to convey his cordial greetings to US president Donald Trump.

On his part, US Secretary of State stressed the American administration’s commitment to strengthening the frameworks of joint cooperation with Egypt in various fields, as well as his country's support for Egypt's efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development, as well as its relentless endeavours to settle crises in the entire region.

Pompeo expressed the US’s aspiration to intensify joint coordination with Egypt on the Libyan issue, in light of the Egyptian political weight in the region.

Regarding GERD talks, Pompeo stressed the American administration's interest and eagerness in achieving the success of these talks to reach positive and just results that preserve the rights of Egypt as well as other parties.
