Sisi: 2021 World Handball Tournament's to Be Global Sporting Celebration

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Saturday with Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports and discussed Egypt’s preparations for hosting the World Handball Championship due to be held next year.

The meeting was also attended by Major General Mohamed Amin, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Financial Affairs.

“The meeting dealt with following up on the final preparations for organizing the World Handball Cup for men, which is scheduled to be hosted by Egypt in January 2021,” said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

President Sisi asked that all capabilities be provided for the success of the tournament, calling for making the event a global sporting celebration on the land of Egypt.

"Sisi said that this tournament shall be the largest sporting event in the world to be organized with public attendance since the start of the coronvirus pandemic," added Rady.Sisi: 2021 World Handball Tournament's to Be Global Sporting Celebration

Rady stated that the Minister of Youth and Sports reviewed various aspects of the ongoing preparations at the level of the Supreme Committee concerned with supervising the organization of the World Men's Handball Championship, including efforts to raise the efficiency of the sports infrastructure that will be included in the tournament.

It’s expected that the tournament will witness the participation of 32 countries for the first time in its history.

108 matches will be held in four different halls in three governorates, in addition to providing 10 other gyms to host national team training.

About 1,100 volunteers from the best young elements will be selected to participate in the running of the tournament.

The meeting also witnessed the presentation of the construction and financing steps for the Egyptian Sports Fund, which is the first investment fund to support sports in Egypt.

Sisi asked for the governance of the Fund with the aim of sustaining its financial returns in favor of supporting Olympic champions, discovering and caring for talented athletes, and establishing national programs for fitness and public health
