A number of experts at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) have warned that the development of nuclear arsenals in the world will lead to a perilous period in history.
Dan Smith, director of the SIPRI, said in a report quoted by the American newspaper “The Hill”: “The world is drifting towards one of the most dangerous periods in human history, and it is imperative that the world’s governments find ways to cooperate in order to calm geopolitical tensions, slow arms races, and deal with the worsening consequences of environmental collapse and increased hunger in the world.
The new report of the Swedish Institute showed that the increasing number of nuclear warheads in military stockpiles threatens global security and stability, indicating that the global stockpile of warheads in military stockpiles will increase by 86% in 2023.
The report revealed that the United States of America (USA) and Russia possess nearly 90% of all nuclear weapons around the world, and China increased its arsenal from 350 warheads to 410 warheads in 2023, a move that may indicate that China may have many ballistic missiles.
