The government of Singapore has announced an investment plan worth more than $785 million to support artificial intelligence research through to 2030, aiming to strengthen global competitiveness and overcome the country’s limited human and natural resources through advanced technology.
Speaking during AI Research Week, Josephine Teo, Minister for Digital Development and Information, said the funding would be directed towards establishing world-class research centres capable of addressing complex strategic challenges while supporting industrial applications.
Teo said the initiative would also focus on developing local talent through international partnerships, stressing that research outcomes would be published openly in order to contribute to global knowledge and innovation.
The investment forms part of Singapore’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading hub for artificial intelligence, leveraging research excellence and cross-border collaboration to drive economic growth and technological resilience in an increasingly competitive global landscape.
