Singapore Ambassador to Egypt Marks 58th National Day

Singapore Ambassador to Egypt Dominic Goh celebrated Singapore's 58th National Day and highlighted the strong and enduring ties between the two countries.

Goh’s remarks covered various aspects of the relationship, from economic cooperation to cultural exchanges and diplomatic collaboration.

The speech began with a moment of silence to honor the victims of recent disasters in Morocco and Libya, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in times of crisis.

The event welcomed distinguished guests, including Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister Hazem Al-Tahry from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Mohamed Orabi and Mohamed Kamel Amr.

In his address, Goh extended greetings for the Egyptian New Year 6265, recognizing Egypt's rich history and civilization.

He went on to discuss the success of Singapore and its economic model. While acknowledging factors like strong governance, education, and forward-looking economic policies, the Ambassador emphasized that Singapore's success is rooted in its diverse and united population.

The ambassador highlighted how Singaporeans of different races, languages, and religions come together to push their nation forward, illustrating this unity through examples of the country's Presidents, who hail from various backgrounds.

He stressed that Singapore's diversity is its greatest strength, enabling it to excel both domestically and internationally. He also praised the strong community of Singaporean students in Egypt, particularly recognizing PERKEMAS for its exemplary efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Turning to international relations, Goh highlighted the importance of Singapore's partnerships, including its involvement with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

He shared that ASEAN is the world's second most successful regional organization and discussed its economic significance, particularly in Egypt.

Regarding Singapore's engagement in Egypt, the ambassador noted that investments have exceeded one billion dollars, making Singapore the fourth-largest investor from East Asia. Trade between the two countries grew by 50% last year, reaching over $600 million.

He mentioned key Singaporean companies' contributions to Egypt's economy, including PSA-BDP, Olam Food Ingredients, and Indorama.

In the area of tourism and antiquities, Goh highlighted collaborations to promote Egypt's rich history globally, citing initiatives by Singaporean companies like Neon Global.

The speech also touched on cooperation in aviation and infrastructure development, showcasing Singapore's commitment to supporting Egypt's growth and development.

The ambassador recognized visits by Egyptian ministers to Singapore and vice versa, emphasizing the importance of such interactions in strengthening bilateral ties.

He concluded by emphasizing that Singapore's success story is shaped by its people and its friendships worldwide. He expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed to the enduring friendship between Egypt and Singapore.

The speech not only celebrated Singapore's National Day but also reinforced the commitment of both countries to continuing their partnership and mutual growth.
