Democrat Senator kyrsten Sinema sparked controversy after she flashed her thumb as she sided with Republicans to vote on an amendment to increase the minimum wage in President Joe Biden's coronavirus relief bill.

Sinema flashed a thumbs-down sign as her name was called to vote on the $15 minimum wage bill. While hand gestures are not an uncommon way for senators to vote, while lawmakers wear masks, some believe it was harsh due to the nature of the vote.

Sinema’s actions reminded Americans of a remarkable moment, when the late Republican Senator John McCain used the same sign to repeal Demarcates vote on the Affordable Care Act in 2017.

Twitter users made comparisons between the two lawmakers, who both voted against their parties, while others said that Sinema’s vote would hurt workers, in contrast to McCain, who is remembered as the incidental savior of healthcare.
