On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting with the head of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat in Cairo; they discussed preparations for the 34th summit of the African Union, scheduled to take place on Feb 6-7.

In a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that talks come as part of continued coordination between the two sides to set the scene for the next summit.

On his part, Faki expressed the importance of joint African action to promote the continent and realize the aspirations of its peoples in the field of development, and stressed the need to enhance cooperation in economic fields and launch regional economic projects.

The 38th meetings of the AU executive council will take place at a ministerial level on Feb 3-4.

It is expected that the meeting, that will be held at Tahrir Palace, will deal with relations between Egypt and the Commission, African issues, ways to develop the continent, and the pivotal role that Egypt plays in establishing peace and stability.

Notably, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received earlier today the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to tackle various issues in the continent.

Sisi stressed that “Egypt has not and will not spare any effort to support its African brothers,” adding that Cairo “will always extend its hand for cooperation, construction and development for the sake of all African countries to be strengthened by the free will of their peoples, their security and stability.”

Sisi and Faki tackled Egypt’s vision regarding a number of African issues, in light of the ongoing preparations for holding the next annual African summit.
