Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry held on Friday a meeting with the delegation of the US House of Representatives headed by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and members of the accompanying delegation.

 Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Shoukry was keen during the meeting to emphasize the strategic nature of relations between Egypt and the United States, and the distinguished cooperation that brings them together in various fields to achieve the common interests of the two countries. 

For her part, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives stressed the interest that the United States attaches to its extended relationship with Egypt, and the joint cooperation and coordination in the framework of strengthening regional security and achieving stability, prosperity and development.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the members of the US delegation were keen to get acquainted with the Egyptian position on many issues such as climate change issues, including providing climate finance, addressing losses and damages, protecting the most affected communities by climate change. 

Abu Zeid revealed that during the meeting, the officials discussed  water issues and the issue of the Renaissance Dam, as the Foreign Minister reviewed the various efforts of the Egyptian state in the field of preserving its water resources, and also stressed the Egyptian position that calls for a binding legal agreement on the rules, filling and operation of the dam to preserve the interests of the three countries, Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. Shoukry also said that the Ethiopian side should have real political will to reach the required agreement.
