Shoukry, Le Drian Hold Bilateral Talks in Jordan: Hafez

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Thursday with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, on the sidelines of a quadripartite ministerial conference in Amman, tackling the latest developments in the Palestinian issue.

The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Germany, France, and the European Union representative.

“The two ministers discussed the outcomes of the meeting, and the results of its released joint statement that stressed the importance of enhancing the climate of stability and peace in the region, and the need to preserve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” said Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hafez added that Shoukry and Le Drian agreed to advance peace efforts in a way that contributes to reaching a comprehensive and just settlement for the Palestinian issue, based on the principle of the two-state solution and within the framework of international legitimacy decisions.

“The two ministers also discussed developments in a number of regional issues,” he noted. 

In this regard, Shoukry reviewed the efforts made by Egypt to achieve political and security stability in Libya, stressing the need for joint action to stop negative interference that destabilizes security and stability in the Arab country. 

The developments in the situation in Lebanon and the related necessity for support and coordination in this regard were also discussed by the Egyptian and French FMs.Shoukry, Le Drian Hold Bilateral Talks in Jordan: Hafez

Hafez manifested that Shoukry had expressed his satisfaction with the pace of coordination and consultation between the two countries at all levels in order to enhance cooperation in connection with regional developments. 

Moreover, Shoukry briefed Le Drian on the Egyptian efforts to open a number of tourist sites to foreign tourism, looking forward to the return of French tourists to Egypt as soon as possible.
