Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received President of the Progressive Socialist Party of Lebanon, Walid Joumblatt, Official Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said on Wednesday.
Hafez added that the meeting came as part of the continuous communication and consultation between the two countries.
“The meeting tackled the latest developments on the Lebanese scene, as well as the situation in the region,” the official noted.
Egypt Keen on Lebanon's Stability
Hafez stated that during the meeting Shoukry expressed Egypt's appreciation for its distinguished relations with Lebanon and the historical ties binding the peoples of the two sisterly countries.
In this regard, Shoukry affirmed Egypt's keenness on the safety, security and stability of Lebanon, realizing Lebanese national interests, and sparing the country dangers of conflicts in the region, in the framework of Egypt's constant keenness on all interests of Lebanon and its people.
Moreover, the foreign minister highly valued the constructive and essential role played by Mr. Joumblatt to maintain stability and balance in Lebanon.
The spokesperson added that the meeting also dealt with the latest regional developments.

On his part, Joumblatt expressed appreciation for Egypt's pioneering efforts aimed at addressing any escalation, defusing regional crises, and restoring stability in the Middle East.
Escalation in Lebanon
On Sunday, Shoukry discussed the recent developments along Lebanon's southern borders with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri by phone.
The conversation was part of Egypt's efforts to stop the current escalation, as part of the historical role of the country in keeping peace and stability in the region, Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ statement read.
The foreign ministry added that Egypt is closely following the situation in Lebanon and is in contact with all parties involved in order to protect stability in Lebanon and to avoid further crises in the Middle East.
In the meantime, Hezbollah reported that it had destroyed an Israeli military vehicle across the border, prompting retaliatory fire from the Israeli army.
Also, the Lebanese army said Israel had fired 40 cluster and regular bombs at the Lebanese side.
